The Water Turned to Wine-John 2:1-11

The guests crowded around, everyone was laughing, dancing, drinking wine, and having a great time. Love was in the air. The bride and groom had just finished saying their marriage vows and now the wine serving had begun. As the common custom of the time, serving wine at a wedding was vital, and having plenty of it. The wedding had been splendid, so i heard, as much as i could tell; although i couldn't hear much from deep within the well where i lay. Within this well i was and within this well i planned to stay until one would come and swoop me out. I knew my time would come soon to be used, people use water constantly, so i knew it was only a matter of time before I would be scooped up into a bucket and used for whatever purposes these humans choose to use my portion of water for. Yet until that time, here i lay, in the dark of this well, waiting. I did not know the future, nor did i know in what great ways the Lord Jesus would use me in just moments. I continued to listen to the joyous sounds coming from the wedding house, until i heard some chatter along the outskirts of the house that sounded concerned. "We have run out of wine, what shall we do?" Then i heard a woman's voice say, "Whatever He says to you, do it." (vs. 5) "What is going on i thought to myself? A wedding feast that has run out of wine?" As thoughts raced through my mind and contemplating what would become of the celebration if it became known that the wine had run dry, i was interrupted by such a sweet voice, a voice that brought peace to my busy mind. He said to the servants of the household, "Fill the water pots with water." (vs. 7) Suddenly some men ran over to the well, and soon i was in a pot. That sweet voice once again spoke and said, "Draw some out now and take it to the master of the feast." (vs. 8) Water to be taken to the master? i thought to myself? Why? That does not solve the problem that there is no more wine for the celebration? What is going on? The voice i heard spoke with such softness; yet such power, a power that I somehow knew within me that He was able to do whatever He pleased and that He was able to, and was going to cure the wine shortage. I believed that He would, until thoughts of doubt ran through my mind, "I am water, not wine, i thought, how is bringing some of me to the master going to help?" While i was still questioning, a miracle took place, i was transformed, suddenly i was no longer water, but i myself had become wine. The transformation was not within my own power, but it had renewed me and made me into what was needed at that very moment (Romans 12:2). I was now wine within a cup being carried to the master. I then heard the master say, "Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!" (vs. 10). This master and the rest of the guests were unaware of what had just taken place; but I myself knew that i had been apart of a miracle. My life was changed that day, the day that i experienced the man with such a voice, that man was Jesus. He works in mysterious ways, turning water into wine, but His ways are just and true and they bring glory to God. It was through this miracle, Jesus' first public miracle that His disciples believed on Him. (vs.11)
Dear reader, can you relate to the water turned to wine? Do you feel that right now you are in darkness? Within a deep well, concerned about the future, unsure of what will happen to you in the nearing moments? Perhaps things are happening in your life and you do not understand why. How is anything good going to come from this? How is water going to cure the lack of wine? Let us not forget that our God works in mysterious ways, beyond us or our thoughts; yet His ways are just and true. Even when we are faithless, He remains faithful (2 Timothy 2:13). He is working. Although you may feel that you are   left alone in darkness, do not give up! Instead look up, for the light is coming, the true Light. He has not forgotten about you, He is ready to use you for His glory, for His power to be revealed through your life, are you ready? Listen for His sweet, soft, and tender voice speaking to you. And trust His ways; He is able. If you allow Him, He will transform you and bring good out of the situation you are currently facing. Be still, and listen for His voice. Obey His commands, regardless of how odd they may seem to you, and wait upon Him. Watch Him work, For He is our good God, our God who is able to turn water into wine, sorrow into joy, and your current situation into His glory revealed. May He be glorified and may many more come to believe on Him through your current situation, surrendered into His hands.

"For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways," says the Lord. "For as the heavens are higher than earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts." Isaiah 55:8-9
